Confrontation with the Unconscious: Jungian Depth Psychology and Psychedelic Experience

Dear all,

I would like to announce the release of my book, Confrontation with the Unconscious: Jungian Depth Psychology and Psychedelic Experience, which is distributed in North America by SUNY Press and is available online internationally. For an overview of the book, please see:

This book is a revised version of my dissertation, completed in 2009. My dissertation chair, Sean Kelly, author of Individuation and the Absolute: Hegel, Jung, and the Path Toward Wholeness, says this about the book:

“This is a landmark study that succeeds in building a bridge, at once robust and elegant, between two fields that have, until now, had little contact with one another. While those who recognize the therapeutic potential of psychedelic experiences are generally favorable to Jung, Jungians have tended to follow Jung himself in being suspicious of psychedelics. Scott Hill respects this suspicion, but goes on to demonstrate that both sides have much to gain, both theoretically and practically, from a sustained dialogue. Practitioners and researchers in Jungian psychology, psychedelic studies and psychotherapy, trauma therapy, and transpersonal studies will all benefit from a close reading of this timely, impeccably researched, and wisely conceived text.”

I would be happy to send a PDF copy of my book’s preface, introduction, and conclusion to anyone interested. Please email me directly at ScottJ.Hill.PhD@gmail.com for a copy.

With best wishes,

Scott

P.S. Copies ordered from SUNY Press are printed on recycled paper. Not so at Amazon, which apparently prints its own copies on regular paper to maximize its profits.
